Metaxa Ouzo
Metaxa Ouzo
Ouzo is a social drink - not to be drunk on its own - rather with friends, and preferably with a small Meze. A premium ouzo founded by the house of Metaxa in 1888. A combination of grapes, herbs, and berries including aniseed, licorice, mint, wintergreen, fennel, and hazelnut. An Ouzo Meze usually consists of a small pate with a few olives,
local sausage, and feta cheese. Ouzo symbolizes the spirit of Greek life. Distilled in Athens, the "birthplace of civilization," Ouzo is made from a precise combination of Tsipoura (pressed grapes) and select herbs and berries including aniseed, licorice, mint, wintergreen, fennel and hazelnut. Its unique recipe has been handed down through generations of master distillers at the House of Metaxa. Their years of experience create a smooth, sophisticated spirit -- OUZO by METAXA.

Ouzo
Ouzo starts as a strong spirit made from pressed grapes or raisins. Other herbs and berries may also be added at the fermentation stage. The key to drinking ouzo is to eat snacks known as mezedes. These keep the effects of the alcohol from overwhelming you and enable you to sit and drink slowly for hours. The distinctive smell of ouzo comes from the addition of anise or star anise as a
flavoring, but other ingredients, varying according to the producer, are also used; common ingredients include coriander, cloves, angelica root, liquorice, mint,
fennel, hazelnut, wintergreen, cinnamon and lime blossom.
