Sempe VSOP Armagnac
Sempé have a great stock of Armagnac, over 13,000 hectolitres of pure alcohol;
they produce and age wines from Gascony and the Landes; they have modern distillation and storage installations in Panjas and Aignan and a the latest technology at our bottling plant in the Landes.
The Sempé brand retains its autonomy whilst being part of the Gerland group and the is a brand recognised in its market in France and overseas. Distilled once in a small continuous still called an "alambic." The crystal-clear brandy is then aged in handmade oak casks where it gains its exceptional fragrance and color. The resulting spirit possesses astonishingly smooth character and exquisite taste known as the "velvet flame." Extraordinarily smooth and fragrant. The subtle aroma of the plums, prunes and violets grown in the Armagnac region can be detected in its distinctive bouquet.
VSOP is
a blend of 6 to 8-year old Armagnacs with 80% Bas-Armagnac. It is fruity, with wooden notes and very flexible in the mouth. Price: $37.08 Buy

Armagnac
Armagnac is produced through the distillation of white grapes harvested from an appellation estate. These wines are then traditionally made. They receive no oenological treatment in order to gaurantee the frankness of the taste, a low alcohol content (8° to 9° proof) and an important overall acidity. As soon as it leaves the still, the Armagnac is stored in oak casks called "pièces armagnacaises" which contain between 400 and 420 litres. The oak used comes in particular from the forest region of Armagnac.
The oak refines the ageing for the spirit. It also enriches it because of complex reactions during which the tannic and aromatic substances in the wood dissolve into the alcohol.
Throughout the ageing process, these "pièces" are stored in shady cellars at a constant temperature. The young spirits stay in new casks until the wooden substances have dissolved as much as possible. Then they are transfered to older casks where the transformation continues.
