Armagnac
Guide
Armagnac
All the factors that go into making a great armagnac are explained, as are the differences between it and cognac.
Chateau de Tariquet Armagnac Three Star
The mastery of distillation and blending is even more evident when you taste this three-star, which keeps intact the oaky, toasty freshness of its youth (4 years in oak barrels), with an exceptionally well-rounded taste, totally lacking in aggression and almost velvety. The nose is initially caramelised and toasty with hints of grapefruit zest, opening out, on exposure to the air, on to fruit, Powers and hints of lime blossom. The initial taste, with its slightly toasty suppleness, gives off toasted, caramelised vanilla favours, reminiscent of brioche. As it rises gradually and gently its candied prune stone texture on a background of light spices is revealed before mellowing on the finish into roasted almond notes. Price: $43.33 Buy

Since 1912, Le Tariquet has been the craddle of an entire family. First of all the home of Hélène and Pierre Grassa impassioned with beautiful Armagnacs and then the home of their children Maïté and Yves fervent wine makers. Together they have developed the Estate to create Eaux de Vie, Bas-Armagnacs and a range of top quality wines.
Le Tariquet nourishes itself on its fertile soils giving the finest aromas to its fruits and declaring the victory of Gascony where wines and Bas-Armagnacs have been elevated to some of the best in their class.
Pairing Armagnac
& Cigars
Bas Armagnac brandies and cigars have been traditionally enjoyed together as a result of the many similarities between them, the first of which is the baptism of fire: for the brandy, this is the fire of distillation, while for the cigar it is the fire of combustion. The alchemical energy of fire is the hallmark of the gustative strength and pyrogenic aromas (toasted or cooked) of the wine distillate and of the smoke from great tobacco leaves. A cigar with my brandy! Cried the pirates, who knew something about fire. But fire alone is not enough. You also need materials, and that's. where you'll find another resemblance.
