Dating back to 1107 it was originally a hunting lodge for the kings and queens of Scotland. Later a refuge for Catholic priests in times of terror the Stuarts of Traquair supported Mary Queen of Scots and the Jacobite cause without counting the cost.
Traquair House brewery founded in 1965 by Peter Maxwell Stuart, 20th Laird of Traquair. The brewery was originally an 18th century domestic brewery producing beer for the house and estate workers.
Traquair was brewing a famous strong ale when Mary Queen of Scots visited in 1566. For 200 years the brewery remained idle until restored in 1965 by the 20th Laird of Traquair.
Deep reddish-golden in color; full, velvet-like body; medium dry and powerful, with an earthy hint of peat character.

Limited edition ale brewed to celebrate the anniversary of the 1745 Jacobite rebellion the ale proved to be so popular it has become a permanent addition to the range. Based on an eighteenth century recipe the ale is spiced with coriander which gives a remarkably fresh aftertaste.
