Elmer T. Lee Born on August 5, 1919 in the small community of Peaks Mill Franklin county near Frankfort Kentucky, Elmer Lee has been a member of Kentucky's distilling business for over 50 years at the Buffalo Trace Bourbon Distillery. In times before history migrating herds of buffalo carved a path, or trace, through the wilderness of North America and up to the banks of the Kentucky River. During the 18th century pioneers followed their trail, known as The Great Buffalo Trace, and established a settlement in what today is Franklin County. By 1775 they were harvesting American grain, blending it with limestone spring water and distilling whiskey: by 1812, Harrison Blanton was distilling on the site where Buffalo Trace is made today. Over the course of his more than 50 years with Buffalo Trace Distillery, Elmer acquired his Bourbon manufacturing, aging and packaging skills from a host of talented professionals, including Col. Albert B. Blanton, Orville Schupp, William Fairleight and many others who have been producing Bourbons for many years.

Single Barrel Bourbon
It was Elmer Lee who came up with the idea of a "Single-Barrel Bourbon". Just as the name implies, all the whiskey in a bottle of single-barrel Bourbon has been dumped from the same barrel. That rather dramatically enhances the "exclusive" factor by reducing the total output of each batch to just about 50 gallons. This, of course, is not entirely a new concept; before the idea of bottling was introduced in the late 1800's all Bourbon was sold by the barrel and therefore any that was subsequently dispensed into a decanter was bound to be "single-barrel".
