Porter Cheese Assortment
Our Porter assortment contains our four favorite cheeses to enjoy with a
creamy glass of Porter. Porter saw a comeback during the homebrewing and
micro-brewery revolution of the late 1970’s and early 80’s, in the US.
Modern-day Porters are typically brewed using a pale malt base with the
addition of black malt, crystal, chocolate or smoked brown malt. Great
Porters pair delightfully with this selection –
Le Maréchal by Emmi: Le Marechal is a raw cow's milk cheese
produced in small batches in the town of Corcelles-aux-Payernes.
Reminiscent of Gruyere and Tete de Moine, Le Marechal is a new cheese that
belongs among the classics. Aged for 5 months, this terrific cheese
retains its creaminess, lending itself well to the Porter.
Cashel Blue Ireland's Beechmount Farm is where Louis and Jane Grubb
make this superb blue cheese, nestled in the rolling hills of Tipperary.
This fantastic new world blue consistently out-performed traditional
Stilton in our Porter pairings.
Danish Tilsit Tilsit is a surface ripened cheese first made by
Dutch settlers in East Prussia, near the town of Tilsit, in the mid-19th
Century. Danish Tilsit also has a piquant flavor, making it a great table
cheese to enjoy with a great Porter.
Knight's Vail: Made in Green County, Wisconsin, in the lush
heartland of America and American cheese making, Knight’s Vail is a cow’s
milk cheese that represents the cheese making techniques of the people who
settled that area of the country centuries ago. It is a new cheese made by
Roth Käse, makers of award-winning Gruyere, and a winning marriage of
traditional methods and contemporary flavor. Creamy in the mouth, with a
sweet yet robust finish, Knight’s Vail was a surprise hit with Porter at
