Amaretto is a liqueur with a distinct flavor of almonds, though it's often made with apricot pits kernels. The original liqueur, Amaretto di Saronno, hails from Saronno, Italy.
The Lazzaroni family of Saronno, Italy, claims the title as the inventors of
amaretto. They invented the Lazzaroni amaretto cookies around 1786 for the King
of the region. Then in 1851, they created the Amaretto Liqueur, which consisted
of an infusion of their cookies with a little caramel for color. Many distilleries produce their own amaretto. The warm, sophisticated taste of DISARONNO has a lineage dating back to one of the most romantic and creative periods in Italian history – the Renaissance. In 1525, the artist Bernardino Luini, a brilliant pupil of Leonardo da Vinci – was commissioned to paint a fresco of the Madonna of the Miracles in Saronno.
Di Saronno Amaretto
