The origin of Pineau is attributed to a legend about a wine grower from Charente who probably put grape must (grape juice coming from the wine press) into a cask containing cognac. Some years later he would have been surprised to discover a delicious, limpid beverage which was as bright as Charente's scenery : so Pineau was born!
Delpech Fougerat Pineau des Charentes Duo
Stemming from an old Charente family in which the property rights date back to 1777, the Fontgireau domain has always been committed to the production of cognac and its aging process. The Laroche family owners of the domain until 1949, had already started to produce cognac in a way that resembled a cottage industry and marketed it to prestigious companies.

White Pineau can de drunk chilled but not ice-cold so as to appreciate its slightly dry, fruity and acidulated aromas that are the result of the bringing together of vines such as the Colombards, Ugni Blanc and the Montils.
The Rosé Pineau, with a wonderful ruby color, is appreciated for its fruitier and more sweetened taste. It is exclusively produced from the bringing together of the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties.
Pineau des Charentes Rouge
The less common rouge variety, very popular locally, is made from the grapes Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, and is aged for at least 14 months in oak barrels.
