Black Bush Irish Whiskey is a rich, dark blend from Ireland's oldest working distillery, Old Bushmills Distillery in County Antrim. Developed in 1934 and originally called “Old Bushmills Special Old Liqueur Whiskey”
A single malt whiskey is married with a single grain whiskey to round out the flavor. It is comprised almost entirely of single malt whiskey. The malt whiskey used to create Black Bush is aged in carefully selected Spanish Oloroso sherry-seasoned oak casks before being blended with a small portion of delicate sweet single grain whiskey. The company flourished until Prohibition in America destroyed the whiskey export trade in Ireland. Although many of the Irish distilleries were forced to close, Bushmills was able to recover thanks to the vision of the then distillery director Wilson Boyd. He correctly anticipated the end of the American alcohol ban and had ample stocks of his fine whiskey ready for export.
Black Bush Irish Whiskey
Viscous and rounded. Medium- to full-bodied. Aromas reminiscent of fresh sea air are accompanied by rich flavors of molasses and chocolate. Leather and smoke linger in the finish.

For centuries Irish whiskey was pot-distilled and sold in casks. It differs from Scotch single malts in three important ways: (1) it was made from both malted and unmalted barley; (2) no peat was used to dry the malt; (3) it was triple distilled, one batch at a time in copper pots. Long-aged, this spirit is an astonishing whiskey with unsurpassed smoothness and a very complex, slightly sweet finish.
Irish whiskey
In 1608, the first licence to distil whiskey was granted by King James I for the region which is now County Antrim. The Irish spirit soon became a favourite among the revellers of British King James's court. In 1784, the Bushmills distillery became an officially registered company.
From the 1740s to 1910 Irish emigrants to the USA spread their taste for Bushmills overseas. During these years the Bushmills whiskeys scored outstanding successes at international spirit and whiskey competitions.
