Whisky making at Highland Park is a way of life. Many of the distillery workers have been there for over twenty years and indeed many follow in the footsteps of their fathers and grandfathers before them. And all adhere to traditional methods of distilling that go way back - for at Highland Park, unlike many a distillery these days, no corners are cut.
Celebrating their Viking origins, Highland Park has crafted this complex
single malt Scotch whisky that bears its founder’s name, Magnus Eunson. The
newest addition to the range, MAGNUS is the perfect tribute to the distillery's
founder, Magnus Eunson, a butcher and church officer by day, and a bootlegger by
night who set Highland Park on its path to becoming ‘The Best Spirit in the
Available exclusively in North America, MAGNUS is crafted using a high
proportion of first-fill Sherry seasoned American oak casks to deliver the
lightly peated characteristics of Highland Park but with a more profound vanilla
flavor profile. Plums. Subtle herbal touches and toast. Mouth: rather tame and
watery, it takes some time to take off. There’s a sweet hint of citrus, dried
fruits and raisins, as well as some herbal notes, liquorice and pepper. The
floral edge is back too. Light honey and a faint hint of salted caramel. Finish:
fairly short, the citrus returns with light smoke and a slightly bitter oaky
Highland Park comes from a land full of mystery and rich in anecdote.
It speaks volumes about Highland Park that a renowned whisky expert once famously wrote ‘if single-malt Scotch whiskies were movies, Highland Park would be Gone with the Wind.’
Voted one of the 20th Century’s best-loved movies, Gone with the Wind continues to delight 60 years after its release. The same can be said of Highland Park single malt Scotch whisky.
Established in 1798 on Orkney, Highland Park is the most northerly Scotch whisky distillery in the world. With its windswept moors, craggy outcrops and ancient religious sites, Orkney is a land full of mystery and rich in anecdote. This, combined with the wind, rain, lightening, freezing ice, crushing waves and hail provide the perfect setting for the home of one of the world’s best malt whiskies.
Highland Park Single Malt Scotch 18 year
First released in 1997, Highland Park immediately found favor with whisky writers and enthusiasts all over the world. It is a perfectly balanced single malt with a toffee sweetness and a mouthwateringly smokey finish.
It was awarded the ultimate accolade in 2005 and again in 2009, when US spirits writer F. Paul Pacult named it "Best Spirit in the World". Highland Park continues to malt its own barley using the traditional floor malting method and to kiln dry the 'green' malt using peat cut from its own moorlands. That's why, at Highland Park, you can still see and smell smoke wafting from its pagoda-style chimneys. Soft, with dried fruit, butter tablet and sherry. Silky-smooth, rich and complex.
Highland Park Single Malt Scotch LOKI
Like its namesake, this whisky is unpredictable and impulsive, echoing the formidable weather of the Orkney Islands. It is a single malt which is both dynamic and energetic, with constantly evolving flavors and a fiendish inner complexity. Highland Park Loki is the second of four releases in the Valhalla Collection available from Highland Park. Named for one of the most treacherous and mischievous characters in Norse mythology, Loki is a 15 year-old limited edition single malt whisky that was matured in both sherry casks and casks that were previously used to mature heavily peated whisky. As Loki departs, a trail of clove, hickory-smoke and creamy vanilla is left to linger. Housed within a unique wooden frame that echoes the fearsome curves of a traditional Viking ship, this limited edition masterpiece won’t be around long.
