Jose Cuervo - Jose Antonio de Cuervo, the first tequila producer, obtained a grant for
land from the King of Spain in 1758, before Mexico had become an independent republic. In 1795, King Carlos IV of Spain transferred the deed to the second José Cuervo, Jose Maria Guadalupe Cuervo, and granted him the first concession to commercially produce Tequila. This Jose Cuervo immediately built his distillery, to produce the "wine of the earth" - Tequila.
