Founded in 1715 by Jean Martell, the firm was the leading cognac producer in the
period of the French Revolution. The 19th century saw expansion as a result of
marriages. When he passed away in 1753, his wife and sons inherited a prosperous company with a strong reputation. After 250 years as a private company, Martell finally went public in
1975. The most precious eaux-de-vie, some of which date back to 1830, are stored in a secret location in the cellars of Martell. Martell is the oldest of the big cognac houses
and has developed a unique know-how for creating truly outstanding cognacs.
Martell will soon celebrate its 300 year anniversary.
