Founded in 1715 by Jean Martell, the firm was the leading cognac producer in the
period of the French Revolution. The 19th century saw expansion as a result of
marriages. After 250 years as a private company, Martell finally went public in
1975 and the firm is now owned by Seagram.

Rare and precious, the composition of Martell Extra is mentioned for the first time in 1819 in a letter written by Theodore Martell to his brother Fréderic. Martell Extra is a blend of eaux-de-vie hailing in part from Martell’s prestigious cellar known as “Le Paradis” giving a wonderful classical cognac.
