Jameson Distillery
Jameson
distillery, founded in 1780, was Ireland’s most famous distillery for nearly 200 years, until its closure in 1971, when distilling of Jameson Irish Whiskey was transferred to the Midleton Distillery. This Cork-based distillery is the beating heart of Irish whiskey with as many as 20 different distillates coming out of the facility, including the globally renowned Jameson. With four pot stills, a three column still and a two column still in operation, there’s huge scope for variety, ensuring no one particular style is synonymous with the Emerald Isle.
Irish Whisky
It is believed that the Irish first started fermenting grains around the 8th century, with many monks producing whiskey for medicinal purposes. A true Irish whiskey will be produced with grains grown in Ireland, although people may use the term more generally to a refer to a specific style of whiskey making. Traditionally, Irish whiskies are distilled three times for extra smoothness. After distillation, Irish whiskey is aged in oak casks. By tradition, these casks are old, and they have previously been used to age alcohols like rum or bourbon.
