Hirsch 21 year old Rye Whiskey
a rare expression of an American whiskey classic: straight rye whiskey. Produced using column stills, it is aged to perfection in oak casks COLOR – Deep, dark rich tone; STYLE – Forward in your face style brash and wonderful ! BARRELING – This Kentucky classic whiskey was aged approx 20 years in oak casks, and then moved to another aging facility in Kentucky. The whisky was then transferred to stainless steel tanks before further aging in younger 10-15 year old oak casks. DISTILLED in 1983 by Hirsch Distillers, Bardstown, Kentucky. At 21 years of age, this rye has developed into a full-blown, intense and aromatic whiskey: dark, lusciously rich and with wonderful oak flavor. Even though the oak aging is apparent and the flavors have a toasty oak taste, the oak does not overpower the exotic and deep straight rye flavor. The whisky enters the palate with warmth and then works back from the rear of the palate to cover the entire palate with rich, multi-layered flavors. Price:

Michter’s Distillery in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania was the foster home of A.H. Hirsch Reserve bourbon. Dating back to the mid-eighteenth century, Michter’s was distilling whiskey. As early as 1753 there was a small distillery on this Pennsylvania farmstead; that’s long before Kentucky was even settled. Thirty years later the farm’s owner decided to concentrate on whiskey production, which makes it one of the oldest commercial distilleries in the country. The distillery stayed in the family for years until Abe Bomberger, a relative by marriage, bought it in 1860, gave the distillery its primary name—his—and distilled rye there until Prohibition closed him down. During prohibition, the plant was sold to a local farmer, who may have fired up the old stills every so often just to keep his neighbors happy. Louis Forman took it over in 1942, but he left abruptly to serve in the Army, not returning until 1950.
Michter’s Distillery finally closed in 1988 after making the only post-Prohibition pot still Bourbon in America.
