Fittingly, a cabreo is an old, hand-drawn Tuscan map—a reminder that ancient terroirs and generations of family winegrowing anchor Tenuta del Cabreo’s highly ranked and sought-after wines. Located in Greve in Chianti Classico, Tenuta del Cabreo
was conceived to express the innovation and creativity of contemporary Tuscan winemaking, and to exploit the enormous potential of Tuscany's soils and local traditions of producing excellent quality wines.
Cabreo Il Borgo Sangiovese & Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
This wine shows an intense ruby red color and nuances of ruby red, little transparency. The nose reveals intense, clean, pleasing, refined and elegant aromas which start with hints of black cherry, plum and black currant followed by aromas of blueberry, violet, vanilla, tobacco, licorice, leather, pink pepper and menthol. The mouth has good correspondence to the nose, a tannic attack and however balanced by alcohol, full body, intense flavors, agreeable.
"The first aroma off this wine is like a good cigar; it’s pure tobacco with a touch of background plum and berry. Lively, pure and snappy in the mouth, where raspberry, cherry and other red fruits mix with coffee and oak-based toast. Nicely textured for food; a touch zesty and raw by itself. The mix is 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet. — M.S. "-Rated 90, Wine Enthusiast
"Tenute del Cabreo belongs to Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari, formerly active in the family firm of Ruffino but now out on their own. The 2001 Cabreo il Borgo, a Sangiovese with Cabernet, shows a new finesse in the integration of the two grapes with its fragrant and elegant aromas of red currants and black currants, spicy oak, and violets, its ample and polished palate, and the lingering, well-sustained finish. It will drink well for another decade." -Rated 91, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The expression Chianti Classico suggests the oldest and most genuine area in the Chianti region. In this small wine-region is produced one of the best-known and appreciated wines: the Chianti Classico Wine. It's included in the Super-Tuscan wines and has been produced here for over 2000 years, since Etruscan time. This Tuscan region was named Chianti and recognized as a wine-region since 13th century.
