The cousins Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino honed their expertise, and soon Ruffino became known for clean, balanced wines, adopting the motto “here we make ideal wine.” Intrigued by the winery's reputation, in 1890, the Duke of Aosta braved a long journey to taste the Ruffino wines he had heard so much about. Ruffino has established itself as a leader in Chianti, renowned for consistency and quality, and Ruffino Chianti has become a global ambassador of Tuscan wines around the world.
Ruffino Chianti Classico Aziano
Aziano is a Tuscan wine which perfectly merges the traditional values of the Chianti Classico territory with the advantages of modern winemaking technology.
The grapes used for the production of Aziano are cultivated in the heart of the Chianti Classico area. Its character and fragrant aromas are enhanced through a temperature-controlled fermentation process in stainless steel tanks.
The tower depicted on Aziano's label was a typical sight in the Middle Ages, when warring Florentine and Sienese noblemen fought to expand their fiefdoms. Many of these towers have toppled in the course of history, but many are still standing today and are a traditional trait of the Tuscan landscape - just as the Chianti Classico is a landmark in Tuscany's enogastronomic culture.

Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale Tan Label 2010
From its first years of production Riserva Ducale has become synonymous with fine Chianti, and it has played a leading role in the development of the privileged position which Tuscan quality wines hold throughout the world today. In many markets this Riserva has in fact transcended its category and become known simply as "Riserva Ducale". It has managed to preserve its excellent reputation through time, thanks to Ruffino's commitment to cultivating the finest Sangiovese grapes on the slopes of the Chianti Classico
hills. Intense ruby red. Aroma characterized by particularly fragrant, fruity notes, typical of this vintage. Sweet cherries and red berry fruits meet with delicately spicy hints of cigar box and white pepper grains and elegant scents of red roses and flint.
Fruity, soothing, and well-balanced, the taste reveals velvety tannins and a enjoyable spicy sensation.

Ruffino Chianti Classico Santedame 2006
The label of the Santedame Chianti Classico shows a beautiful fresco of Virgin Mary, accompanied by Saint John and Saint Peter. The Santedame Estate vineyards are near the town of Castellina, in the heart of Chianti Classico in an area known as the “Golden Basin.” Single estate Chianti Classico; traditional style. This fresco, which has a sweet, loving air to it, can be seen in the small chapel hidden in the forest of the Santedame Estate.
The fresco dates back to the fourteenth century and is attributed to the school of the famous Florentine artist Il Ghirlandaio. It is one of the many examples of how history, culture and wine meet on the Santedame Estate.

For years the symbol of Italian wine was the straw-covered Chianti flask.
Some excellent wines from the Chianti region, and similar “Super Tuscans” are considered world-class. Historically, Chianti Classico is where it all started, and today the general consensus is that the best wine of the region is made there.
