The Orvieto Classico wine is named after one of Umbria's most beautiful cities, located on a hilltop between Florence and Rome. This city is known for its magnificent dome. Orvieto is an Italian wine region located in Umbria and Lazio, centered on the commune of Orvieto. It is primarily known for its white wines made from a blend of mostly Grechetto and Trebbiano. Wine has been made in Orvieto since the days of the Etruscans.
Ruffino Orvieto Classico 2011
Over the years, winegrowers from the Chianti region have also maintained vineyards in Orvieto. They are driven by the desire to produce a class of white wine as well known and loved as Chianti itself. In fact, there is hardly any other Italian white wine as widely known and loved as the Orvieto Classico with its easy drinking character and distinct Italian style. Ruffino does not currently own any vineyards in Umbria, but the winery collaborates with several local growers in order to select the best grapes for the production of its Orvieto Classico. Orvieto Classico Ruffino was first produced in the fifties. It is a pleasant and refreshing wine. It is very versatile - perfect for most occasions.

Viticulture was introduced to the Orvieto region by the early Etruscans, who carved out cellar-like caves from volcanic soil that could house wine production with long, cool fermentation and produced the type of sweet wine that was popular in the ancient world.
