Anise

Anise is used in anise-flavored liqueurs and is the dominant ingredient used in the infamous and sometimes-banned liquor absinthe. It is also used in soft drinks such as root beer. Anise, Aniseed, or Anis is a flowering plant in the family Apiaceae, native to the eastern Mediterranean region and southwest Asia. It is a herbaceous annual plant. In addition, anise is used as a breath sweetener and as a digestive aid. Anise, in addition to its therapeutic virtues, is likewise widely employed for its intense and pleasing aroma in the production of liqueurs: from Sambuca to Anisette, to the Turkish Raki. Anise is used to flavor French spirits absinthe, anisette and pastis, Greek ouzo, Middle Eastern arak, Colombian aguardiente, Bulgarian mastika, Macedonian Мастика, German Jägermeister, Italian sambuca, Dutch Brokmöpke, Portuguese, Peruvian and Spanish anís, Mexican Xtabentún and Turkish rakı.

Absente LiqueurAbsente Liqueur
absente derives its aromatic flavor from the herbs and spices which are macerated in a spirit solution, then drawn off the liquid and distilled. The traditional flavor and aroma of Absinthe can now be enjoyed in Absente as an aperitif.
Arak RazzoukArak Razzoukpad
Arak Razzouk is the anise-based spirit from Lebanon distilled from grape juice with fresh aniseeds, imparting its distinctive fresh savor, and making it the national beverage of its mother country. Arak Razzouk is made with special varieties of sweet mountain grapes.
Ricard LiqueurRicard Pastis
Ricard is the Number One pastis, or aniseed-flavored beverage, in the world. A refreshing aperitif, Ricard is a long-time favorite in France and the 4th largest spirit in the world. It is sold in 150 countries. The original secret recipe, composed of a blend of natural ingredients, is unaltered since its creation by Paul Ricard in 1932. The principal ingredient of Ricard is star anise, a rare spice that grows near the southern Chinese border and in the north of Vietnam.
Romana Black SambucaRomana Black Sambucapad
A liqueur produced by the infusion of Witch elder bush and licorice. The sugar and these natural aromatic plant extracts make for a delicious combination. It can be flavored with sweet anise and now can be found in different varieties. It is similar to Anisette but has a higher alcoholic level and is less sugary. Clear. Oily, fusel, sweet anise aromas. Thick, sweet and viscous with a distinctly oily note through the finish.
Anise might have originated in Asia, but it has since spread to Europe, Northern Africa, the Middle East and North America. Ancient Egyptians and Romans used it as a spice. It also has been used throughout history for medicinal purposes and for its fragrance.

Absinthe
At the end of the nineteenth century, the society began to really enjoy absinthe, and so its demand increased rapidly. Absinthe was very popular among the artist and writer crowd in the 19th and early 20th centuries and was known for its mild hallucinogenic properties. This alcohol was banned in most Western nations by the 1920s and remained virtually unavailable until a widespread revival in the 1990s, following its re-legalization. Visit our Absinthe Store
