This highly coveted Kentucky pot still-style 16-year bourbon was distilled in 1974 and bottled just before its host distillery, Michter's in Pennsylvania, shuttered its doors in 1990. Dating back to the mid-eighteenth century, Michter’s was distilling whiskey. As early as 1753 there was a small distillery on this Pennsylvania farmstead; that’s long before Kentucky was even settled. Anchor Distilling, which distributes the label, says the remaining bottles are the last of the batch.

A.H. Hirsch was an investment banker who invested in the "Schaefferstown Distillery" in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania in an effort to keep it operational, though it would ultimately shut down several decades later in 1989. Although the use of a pot still is very costly, this product showcases why it should continually be used; rich, complex flavors draw into a long soothing finish. The distillery is a historic landmark for American whiskey that was in operation for more than two centuries. The vacant Michter’s Distillery itself, despite being listed on the National Historic Register, has passed through several hands since it closed, and has sadly become a dilapidated shell of its former self; the old rickhouses a reminder of a more spirited past. Hirsch's contribution would ultimately result in what many consider to be the finest expression of bourbon ever made, the legendary A.H. Hirsch Reserve 16 Year Old.

An incredibly rare and sought after expression, distilled in 1974 after being commissioned by Adolph Hirsch in a 400-barrel batch and aged for 16 years.

TASTING NOTES
Deep amber in color, rich medium amber-orange with copper-russet highlights. Compact nose has sensuous fragrances of spiced orange, walnut, corn husk, a touch of resin, and most prominently, nougat. The mouth feel is exceptional. It is a rich, full whiskey with a spice-dominant character mellowed by age.
